Description

A tribute to Dawn Hampton, american cabaret and jazz singer, saxophonist, dancer, and songwriter.

Dawn was born into a musical family. Her father, Clark Deacon Hampton, lead a family band composed by his 12 children: the Deacon Hampton and the Cotton Pickers. From the age of 3, Dawn traveled throughout the country with the band, working alongside her family.

During World War II, Dawn and her sisters Carmalita, Aletra and Virtue founded a separate group called The Hamptonians, which was only active for a very brief time as after the war Dawn entered her brother Clark “Duke” Hampton’s jazz band as a saxophonist. By 1950, she had already performed at the Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theatre, and at the Savoy Ballroom.

In 1958, Dawn moved to New York City to start a career as a songwriter and cabaret singer. She soon became part of the off-Broadway production Greenwich Village at the Bon Soir Musical Theater. In 1964 Dawn damaged her vocal chords and that unfortunately caused a loss of volume to her singing voice. Despite this incident, though, Hampton kept performing as a cabaret singer in New York City for another 20 years.

In 1992 Dawn appeared in Spike Lee’s movie Malcolm X where she danced alongside Sonny Allen and Frankie Manning.  She also made an appearance in Alive and Kicking, a documentary about swing.

Her late career sees Hampton teaching workshops all over the world.

Foot measurements directions:

Foot length is more accurately measured when standing directly on a ruler or measuring tape.
Make sure you measure from the furthest back/central part of the heel to the end of the longest toe.

Foot width shall be measured by wrapping a measuring tape around the widest part of your foot, usually where your bunion joint is. Ensure you have your full weight on the foot for accuracy.

You may want to repeat the whole measuring process a few times to confirm your measuring results.
