Description

A tribute to Sugar Sullivan, Savoy Lindy Hopper and jazz dancer extraordinaire.

Born as Ruth Guillory in Harlem, New York, “Sugar” Sullivan started her dancing career in a Harlem dance school when she was four years old and never stopped dancing. Her passion ran in the family. Her mother, Lady Esther, had been a dancer at the Savoy.

When her dancing career took off, Sugar was too old to enter the Savoy competition. However, her passion and will power led her to become a renouned member of the “third generation” of Lindy Hoppers, the one that brought Lindy Hop back in fashion in the 1950s.

After winning the Lindy Harvest Moon award with her first husband George Sullivan in 1955, she toured with Sonny Allen and the Rockets. Even the birth of her two kids Sheryl and Jerry, in the late 1960s, did not stop Sugar from dancing! She rarely missed an opportunity to perform, wether in small clubs or at large concert halls or on TV.

In the early 1980s, Sugar and Al Minns reunited and contributed once again to Lindy Hop’s rediscovery.

Foot measurements directions:

Foot length is more accurately measured when standing directly on a ruler or measuring tape.
Make sure you measure from the furthest back/central part of the heel to the end of the longest toe.

Foot width shall be measured by wrapping a measuring tape around the widest part of your foot, usually where your bunion joint is. Ensure you have your full weight on the foot for accuracy.

You may want to repeat the whole measuring process a few times to confirm your measuring results.
